Eco-friendly cylinder head covers

A collaborative industrial project between the automotive part supplier Dana Holding Corporation and the compounder Wellman Engineering Resins has allowed to produce an innovative eco-friendly cylinder head cover for the Ford 3.0-liter Duratec™ engines. The new cylinder head covers are made from post-recycled polyamide (PA) material i.e. EcoLon® using an injection molding process. This reclaimed PA material that is stemming from carpeting is grinded into fiber. Then Wellman Engineering Resins takes it back to its material stage through a proprietary technology. The new PA-based cylinder head covers are already used in the 2010 Fusion and Escape Ford vehicles, providing significant cost and environmental benefits. They are said to be 20% lighter than conventional aluminum diecast versions.
