Lightweight stabilizer for Porsche

The German automotive part manufacturer ContiTech Vibration Control AG and the German material producer BASF AG have joined forces in order to develop an innovative stabilizer for the new Porsche Panamera™ vehicles. The partners have produced the high-performance integrated component by using a high-strength polyamide (PA) material i.e. an Ultramid™ CR grade from BASF and a functionally optimized natural rubber (NR) mixture. Such a stabilizer provides 35% weight saving compared with conventional metallic component while fulfilling aesthetics requirements because it is visible when the bonnet is open. It is the reason why ContiTech Vibration Control has built a special mold for the part in order to achieve an optically high-quality textured surface as required by Porsche. Moreover the new polyamide-based stabilizer reliably withstands engine torques up to 650 Nm and provides very good absorption and secure mounting of the engine in the vehicle.
